I'm back

Sorry I’ve been out of touch. A 2 week trip to South Carolina to teach Sculpting the Dog at Brookgreen Gardens really kept me busy. We rented a mini van with air conditioning to bring Bella and Rigel. This was an absolute necessity for the trip since there was a heat wave with temperatures in the upper nineties and 100 % humidity.
The workshop went really well, Bella and Rigel were the consummate models and every one loved them. Chris would pick them up from Benji’s Bed and Breakfast where they were staying (no hotels in Pawleys Island allow dogs, shame on them) in the afternoon and they would strike poses on the modeling stand. The students loved them and they received lots of love as well as toys and treats.
Teaching a group is new to me and with 12 students it was a lot more exhausting than I had anticipated. But it was well worth it, we all learned a lot and had lots of fun doing it.
I’ve been asked to teach again next year, hopefully earlier in the year when it’s cooler.

Yesterday I got the news that the Worrell Collection in Charlottesville, Virginia is going to be purchasing my life size Chickadee! This is a collection of large outdoor animal sculptures which is in the process of becoming a public collection.

Ebay auctions

It’s a beautiful spring day in Guffey. We got some moisture yesterday and so everything smells fresh and green is coming up.
Last night I put some sculptures up on Ebay, I’m doing spring cleaning and trying to sell a lot of my old sculpture collecting dust under the house. There are nudes that I sculpted more than 10 years ago when I was at Mount San Antonio Community College. Chris isn’t happy about me selling Chrome Dome and a few of the pieces but I really have a hard time looking at my older work.
There are also a couple of Great Dane bronzes up, the Old and the Restless and The Great Dane (my first Great Dane bronze).

American Idol

Yes, I’m one of the fans of American Idol, much to the disappointment of Chris. I get caught up in it every year, and this year I’m thrilled that David Cook won. What a genuine person with a great voice and style. Congratulations David Cook.

National Sculpture Society Weekend

May 20th, 2008   (10 views )

Adam and I had a fabulous time. There was a cocktail party at Morton Swinsky’s home on the upper East side. I knew I had 2 sculptures in Mort’s collection and was excited to see all his sculpture but was totally surprised to see another of my pieces, Lethal Weapons stretching on a classical marble mantle piece along side a number of Dan Ostermiller’s cats! More on the weekend later, I’m off for a walk to burn off some of the fat I accumulated in New York.
